Spirit of the Sea

70x100cm

Charcoal on paper

2021

This charcoal drawing was drawn from a reference photo kindly provided to me by Australian photographer Matty Smith. I thoroughly enjoyed creating this piece. It was a lot of fun drawing a new subject with vastly different elements and textures than I’m used to with furry land animals. I rediscovered my love for whales while I studied this piece, and I couldn’t think of a title that fit better for my depiction of this majestic creature than “Spirit of the Sea”.
